Strengthen your woodworking projects by using braces in the corners.
Squares and rectangles constructed out of wood require bracing of some type in order to be strong in all directions. The two fastest, easiest bracing methods for wood are corner braces and gussets, as shown in the illustration. Corner braces can be installed inside the frame, or attached to the back of the frame. Attaching to the back of the frame is not as strong as attaching inside the frame. Plywood gussets also make excellent braces. Install the gussets on the outside back of the frame using wood screws of the proper size and length. Even ¼” plywood makes a very strong gusset. As you brace each corner of your project, you will actually feel the frame getting stronger. The more braces you install, the stronger the frame becomes.
